Alan joins XL Law & Consulting with over 20 years of experience in the higher education sector. With a background as both a classroom instructor and academic affairs administrator, he has a deep appreciation for the mission of colleges and universities.
Most recently, Alan worked for the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) as law fellow and then as a Legal Resources Research Attorney. In this capacity, Alan was the principal author of NACUA’s New Cases and Developments updates. He developed NACUA’s webinars on college mergers, acquisitions, and closures and on the Department of Education’s 2023 Financial Value Transparency and Gainful Employment regulatory framework, and he wrote the written materials accompanying the Supreme Court Update plenary sessions with Dean Erwin Chemerinsky at NACUA’s 2023 and 2024 Annual Conferences. He also assisted members with their requests for NACUA legal resources and practice aids.
Alan began his career as a philosophy instructor at Baruch College of the City University of New York and the Long Island University Brooklyn Campus. He subsequently served as Senior Director of Academic Affairs for The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars. He served on the Board of Directors for the National Society for Experiential Education.
Alan earned a B.A. in philosophy from Furman University, an M.A. in Philosophy and Social Policy from American University, a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the City University of New York, and a J.D. from the American University Washington College of Law.
